This is the famous black history memoir from former Black Panther Eldridge Cleaver (1935-1998). Written during 1965, when Cleaver was serving time in Folsom Prison in California, SOUL ON ICE is a collection of black empowerment essays that has since become required reading for those interested in the politics of race.
The essays in this book were first published individually in the magazine Ramparts. When it proved popular, Cleaver’s work was collected and published in book form.
In SOUL ON ICE, Cleaver focuses on topics such as the killing of Emmett Till (who was lynched at age 14, purportedly for flirting with a white woman), the murder of Malcolm X, his views on Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King, Jr., race riots and black / white relationships.
Buy this book to gain insights on racial issues from the perspective of someone who fought the fight in its early days, and who sought and found redemption from his youthful sins.
